"NJCL Latin Honor Society induction matters because it shows prospective colleges and employers that a student values high academic achievement and has maintained proper citizenship. Colleges especially value language honor society induction because they are eager to accept students who challenge themselves in meaningful courses and who succeed."
To become a member of the Latin Honor Society, students must meet the following criteria:
▪ Maintain an A average in the Latin course (the application will be submitted after the end of 3rd quarter). ▪ Win an award on the National Latin Exam. ▪ Be a member of TJCL and NJCL. ▪ Exemplify good citizenship (no referrals, cheating, etc. for that year).
In addition, students must fulfill ONE of the following during that year: ▪ Complete a service project (e.g. helping out at the table on eighth grade night, peer tutoring a minimum of 3 times, etc.). ▪ Participate actively in the Certamen Club (attend 75% of meetings). ▪ Participate actively in a major event such as the Fall Festivus or the TJCL State Convention.
Qualifying membership of the Junior Classical League (National and Tennessee divisions) is available to all Latin students ($6).
Besides eligibility for the Honor Society, members may also:
Participate in the JCL state and national conventions.
Seek leadership positions in the JCL at the state and national level.
