National Latin Exam 2024
This year 25 students took the NLE, with 10 gaining gold and 9 silver, with 1 perfect score in Latin Intermediate Reading Comprehension.
Fall Festivus 2023 (Memphis University School)
Congrats to our Latin 1 Certamen Team for placing 2nd overall, beating out MUS, St Mary's, Whitestation, and other local schools.

It's been an interesting year with the switch to block schedule, which has presented some challenges, especially with pacing. Nevertheless, our students rose to the challenge and did not disappoint, even though most of them haven't been in a Latin class since December! Here are some highlights:

NLE 2023
NLE was voluntary this year due to the move to block schedule. Nevertheless, we had 16 Hons students take the exam, who between them took 9 gold medals and 4 silver medals.

2022 TJCL Convention (Clarksville, TN) The physical convention was finally back. We had a great team, nearly half of whom were Latin 1 students. Our team also included veteran Latin student Saranya, the only member to have also attended the previous physical convention (2019, Chattanooga).
Highlights Among the awards, these stand out:
4 of the 18 Best of Show awards (more than all other Memphis-area schools combined!), with our students gaining the highest scores in the state in the categories of Classical Art History, Roman History, Grammar 1, and Mythology
joint 1st (both places), 2nd, and 5th place in Latin 1 level Mythology; 2nd in level 3, and 1st in level 4.
1st, 3rd, and 6th place in Academic Heptathlon (Latin 1 level)
1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th place in Grammar 1
2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th in Reading Comprehension 1

Twenty-two of our Latins 1 students took the NLE, with the following results:

National Roman Civilization Exam 2020
Congrats to CHS students. We had five students sit the exam and results were as follows: 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze.
Congratulations to our Certamen team for coming second place in the tournament held online on Saturday April 18th.
National Latin Exam 2020 Results
Of the 36 Latin 1s that took the NLE, there were 17 gold (2 perfect), 12 silver, 3 magna cum laude and 2 cum laude awards.
Of the 29 Latin 2s, we had 3 gold, 12 silver, 5 magna cum laude, and 4 cum laude.
Of the 10 Latin 3s, we had 2 golds, 4 silvers, and 3 magna cum laude awards.
Awesome results. Nationally 38% typically win an award (cum laude or above), and about 11% are awarded a gold medal.

National Classical Etymology Exam 2020
Congrats to Aadavan E for scoring Intermediate Level (Latin 1) Gold and to Julia Howell for Advanced Level (Latin 3) Silver. Priyanshu A, Emma T. and Benjamin T. all gained Intermediate Level (Latin 2) Bronze medals.
Fall Festivus 2019
Unfortunately, due to conflicts, CHS is unable to attend Fall Festivus this year (2019).

Fifty Latin 1 students took the test:
38% received either gold or silver (compared with 23.7% national average), 60% received magna cum laude or above (34.17% national average) 78% won awards (44.9% national average).
